Note3 vs. Note Air vs. Note2: 10.3-inch BOOX E Ink Tablets Buying Guide

Find out the most suitable Note model

Note3 vs. Note Air vs. Note2

In the last two months, BOOX releases two models in its 10.3-inch Note line to better satisfy different user needs.

Although Note Air and Note3 have a totally different design and a large specification gap, users will get indecisive in the purchase.

Therefore, this post will walk you through these two great new devices’ main differences and help you figure out which one suits you best. Also, we’ll add Note2 to the contest to give a comprehensive view.

Note3: Advanced in All Aspects with Lightweight

If you care about the paper-like writing experience and optimal performance, then Note3 is the best choice for you.

Note3

As the latest member of the Note line, Note3 soon takes the place of Note2 and becomes our premium Note model.

Note3 outstands Note2 mostly because of its hardware and software advancement

The octa-core processor once seen in Note2 gets upgraded in Note3 to offer more power for multitasking. So you can experience noticeably faster speed when turning the page, opening apps, and browsing webs.

Although Note3 has the same large storage of 4G RAM and 64G ROM, the improved storage and flashing memory solutions make it even close to our flagship model Max Lumi

LPDDR4X and UFS2.1 in Note3 can transfer data multiple times quicker than the LPDDR3 and eMMC in Note2. Differences are trivial in transferring small-sized files–but when it comes to the large ones, you’ll see the gap.

Moreover, Note3 uses Bluetooth 5.0. So it’s more stable in connection and can transmit more data per second when compared to the Note2 with BT 4.1.

Therefore, if improved speed matters to you, Note3 with advanced hardware is more suitable.

Reading with Note3
Reading with Note3

When it comes to reading, Note3 has a front-lit 10.3inch display with 1872×1404 resolution and 227 dpi. Its size is excellent for showing academic materials in PDF and ebooks. Also, the adjustable front light can help you read small-to-large-format content sharply at any scene. If you read both PDFs and ebooks and want to take notes on them, Note3 is a perfect size to cover both needs.

Note3 is an all-rounder device in our BOOX family. One of the reasons is that it balances functionality and size perfectly.

Unlike the super large Max models, such as Max Lumi and Max3, Note3 is smaller and weighs only around 375g. The size makes it so flexible in displaying any kind of content. And the weight makes it much more portable than Max models and even Note Air with 420g.

Also, the screen of Note3 is different from Note Air.

Note3 has a Mobius flexible screen with AG (Anti-Glare) glass flat cover-lens, whereas Note Air has an HD Carta screen with AG glass flat cover-lens. That’s to say, Note3 has a more pen-to-paper feel than Note Air.

If you love the size of 10.3inch and cares more about the writing experience and overall performance, then Note3 is the best choice for you.

Note Air: Slim and Ergonomic

If pen-to-paper texture and large storage doesn’t matter to you much, the slim, chic and affordable Note Air with flexible, advanced features can be the most suitable 10.3inch for you.

Note Air

Note Air is a unique model in the Note line.

Unlike Note3 and Note2’s conventional form factor, Note Air has a wider bezel to give extra grip on one side. The G-sensor providing auto-rotation combining the design offers you a truly ergonomic experience. Also, the refreshing color combination of navy blue and orange adds a more stylish and vivid hint to the device.

When speaking of design, what makes Note Air outstanding in an array of 10.3inches is its 5.8mm ultra-slim body. Such a thickness packs a quality speaker, a specially reinforced USB type-C interface, a power button, and a lot of advanced hardware.

Moreover, we use advanced technology to build out a slim but rigid body. Note Air thus becomes a quality-made Android device that provides excellent hand feel, effortless grip and extraordinary performance.

It features some of the same essential hardware and software with Note3: a powerful upgraded octa-core chip, BT 5.0, Android 10 and the latest firmware. All add up to make a responsive Note Air. Although it only has 3GB LPDDR4X RAM + 32GB eMMC ROM, which is smaller than Note3’s, it’s quite ample room for a bunch of files, ebooks, and notes.

Another huge difference between Note Air and Note3 is their screen. Note Air adopts the HD Carta screen, the upgraded version of the fourth generation of E Ink screen, to render crisp texts and reduce page refreshes’ needs. Although Note Air doesn’t provide a much paper-like feel, its in-box screen protector will improve the writing experience.

If pen-to-paper texture and large storage don’t matter to you much, the slim, chic and affordable Note Air with flexible, advanced features can be the most suitable 10.3inch for you.

When you hold it at hand, you won’t regret it.

Note2: The Best Time to Get A Discounted All-rounder Device

If you’re budget-limited, fond of paper-like experience and don’t care much about the trivial differences of Android 9 and 10, you cannot miss the powerful, discounted Note2.

Note2

Is Note2 obsolete? Not at all.

Before Note3 coming out, Note2 was the most advanced Note model. It has the octa-core processor of Max3 and massive storage of 4GB+64GB. It outpaces Nova models in terms of storage and size. It weighs around 375g, balancing a large form factor and portability perfectly. Also, with Android 9.0, it outpaces most of the Android-based E Ink tablets in the market.

Note2

You can do a lot of things on Note2.

  • Read pdfs, epubs, mobi, cbr and all kinds of file formats. Pinch-to-zoom seamlessly to view content clearly. Split the screen to read books and take notes.
  • Install third-party apps, including Kindle, Scribd, Bloomberg, Medium and Reddit.
  • Listen to the music with the quality dual speakers or your Bluetooth earbuds.
  • Take down notes on custom templates. And draw with powerful tools, such as lasso, different colors and then sync your works to the cloud.

From reading, note-taking to multitasking, Note2 can meet almost all your needs. Although Note2 won’t upgrade to Android 10, the latest V3.0 Firmware will soon come to it, as we’re conducting beta tests among some experienced users.

More importantly, Note2 has a Mobius screen with high resolution. So it can provide a better writing feeling.

  1. Hi,
Is there a difference in writing experience between Note 2 and Note 3? why so?
Is the writing experience equals on Note 3 than Nova 3?

    Thanks for your anwsers.

    1. Hi Piero,

There are no writing experience differences between the Note2 and Note3, as they both use Mobius screen with AG glass flat cover-lens. Nova3, like its previous model Nova2, uses an HD Carta E Ink screen with AG glass flat cover-lens. The Mobius screen is softer than the Carta screen, but many of our experienced users comment that the writing feeling on Nova2 and Note2 are both good. Best regards,
      BOOX Team

  2. Between the note air and the note 3, which device would be best for people who get eye strain from reading on other devices (like from our phones and computers)?

    1. Hi Vero,

Note Air and Note3 are E Ink devices. They both get the merits of an E Ink screen: eye-friendly, comfortable viewing, and power-efficient. The main differences lie in their form factors and specification. If you want to buy a 10.3inch E Ink tablet to relieve your eyestrains resulted from light-emitting devices (phones and computers), Note Air ad Note3 are both great choices 😉

      Best regards,
      BOOX Team

        1. Note3 also has landscape mode, but the difference is the landscape/portrait mode in Note3 needs a manual selection. Because Note Air has a gravity sensor built-in, it can adjust the screen orientation automatically. Also, the design, weight, thickness, screen type, battery capacity and storage are different in these two devices. To sum up, Note3 gets better specs in terms of battery and storage, while Note Air gets unique features (a magnetic pen and g-sensor) and a thin and ergonomic design.
