BOOX V3.0 Firmware Feature Introduction Part 1

System-Wide Split-Screen

The system-wide split-screen mode is a new feature that comes with the V3.0 firmware. It enables you to run two apps at the same time in the horizontal display, which doubles your efficiency by reducing the app switching time.

The newly released 13.3’’ Max Lumi and 10.3’’ Note Air are the first two models that employ BOOX V3.0 firmware. Other models will also get the firmware update packages once they’re ready.

Now let’s check out how to activate the system-wide split-screen mode.

How To Enable System-Wide Split-Screen Mode

【Edit: After updating to the V3.0 firmware, some users may not find the split-screen button at the beginning. Please pull down the system menu, and tap the “Edit” button. Then you can see the “Split Screen” button and move it to a more obvious position.】

  • Only the applications that support the split-view can be opened in the split-screen mode successfully.
  • Apps optimization and screencast are disabled under the system-wide split-screen mode.
  • If you want to take reading notes pinned to a specific book when reading with the built-in NeoReader, you can only activate the split-view mode in the NeoReader. If you just want to open a random note while reading, then please go ahead with the system-wide split-screen mode.

    1. Hi Stefan,

The V3.0 firmware for other models is going through debugging. If everything is going smoothly, the system-wide split-screen mode will also come to Note2 soon. Stay tuned!

  1. Is firmware 3.0 going to be on Nova2? I’ve been looking at a Nova 2 for its size but and have been holding back because one of the things I want to do is have Kindle app and note taking app side by side. Or is there any new models on the horizon with this firmware and the size of the Nova2?

    1. Hi Jonathan,

The V3.0 Firmware will get to Nova2. We’re at the stage of debugging, if everything goes well, the system-wide split-screen will also apply to Nova2 soon. You’re welcome to follow us at Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and other social media account to catch up with our latest updates.

  2. I’m successfully using split-screen mode to view two different apps. However, I had thought that I can use it for the same app, e.g. reading a Kindle book by displaying two pages at a time (much like a paper book). How is this done?

    1. Hi Emily,

Currently, our split-screen feature doesn’t support opening the same app side by side. If you want to open the same book in the split-screen to compare different pages, we recommend using the default NeoReader. Using the built-in split-screen feature in the NeoReader, you can open the same document side by side.

Regarding the split-screen for the same app, we’ve passed this feature request to our Dev team. Thank you for reaching out to us with this suggestion. Please stay tuned to our social media to catch up with any future feature updates.

  3. Hi Boox team:

I just received my Note Air that I use for academic research and writting. First of all, congratulations! It is an excelent product and I have managed to do most of my work in it 🙂 I just wanted to suggest an improvement that would make the splitscreen feature easier to use: easily swap the app to be shown as secondary app in split screen. Sometimes I find myself comparing two documents and need to open another application to do whatever I need. Having to go back to the apps list, do what I need in the app I couldn’t open from the splitscreen view and THEN go back to the original app just to set up the splitscreen again is a real hassle. Even if it is just a matter of exiting splitscreen and re-entering it to select the other app. If this feature is added, it would save users time and make the product even more practical!

Thanks for the hard work and I hope to see more of BOOX in the future, you won a fan.

    1. Hi Nix,

You can set the back button as one of the navigation balls, then tap it to quickly change the app for one of the split-screen without entirely exiting to the main interface. Also, you can set “back” as one of the gestures.

      Best regards,
      BOOX Team
