Exclusive Tips on Setting Up BOOX Notes App

If you have more than one demand, let BOOX satisfy your expectations. BOOX offers a lot of reading and note-taking functions for users on its E Ink tablets and eReaders to make the devices as multitasking and versatile as it can. 

As some magical tools and functions are hidden to leave more display areas for the primary operation, it sometimes takes users steps to find specific settings. Some people feel the fun of exploration, while some get lost in finding what they need.

When it comes to the built-in Note app, users have more to expect and concern. Some people still don’t know how to fully utilize the amazing features on the Note app with the ERM pen with 4096-degree of pressure sensitivity to create organized notes and wonderful drawings. 

They have questions like “Can BOOX do… in note-taking?” and “Where is … in Note app”. By posting these puzzles, users want to figure out how BOOX can benefit them in colleges and schools and improve their efficiency for work, business and interpreting.

In this article, you’ll learn the essential functions of buttons on the top bar of BOOX’s built-in Note app, and how they can help you achieve different goals. Also, you’ll find some useful tips that can help make the Note app work better for note-taking, writing and drawing.

The top bar layout is quite simple and neat. 

There’re three buttons on the upper left area, meaning “Recent Notepads”, “Local Notepads” and “Reading Notes” relatively from the left to the right.

The difference between “Local Notepads” and “Reading Notes” is that: you can create separate notes in your local notepads, but your reading notes will only appear after you take notes in the slip-view screen when reading.

As for the five buttons in the upper right corner, they’ve got different purposes. Let’s go them through from the left to the right:

• Sync button: It looks like a could with the little transfer symbol under it. After logging into your Onyx account, you can tap this button to sync ALL your notes with your mobile and PC.

• Search button: A magnifier, obviously. When tapping the search button, you can type in the words to find their hand-written version accordingly in your notes quickly. 

• Create New button: You can add folders and name them by tapping this “folder+” button. The Note app disables duplicate folder and file names to eliminate confusion.

• Multiple Selection button: It features a checkmark on a square. This tool enables you to export, sync, move and delete all or part of your notes upon selection, making bulk operation easy-peasy.

• More Options button (Hamburger icon): When you tap this button, a dropdown menu will pop out and enable you to set up note syncing, sort notes, and change the overall settings for the Note app.

We won’t go them through bit by bit, yet I’ll share with you some tips on making the Note app work more smoothly for you.

If you turn these two settings on, you have to wait for the syncing every time you open and close a note. If you want to make sure you have your notes synced every time you make changes to them, you can also turn on the auto-syncing.

Disabling the trace is a good way to avoid annoyance if you don’t want to see the little tracing ball appear when erasing texts and lines.

If you draw a lot and are sensitive to the shapes of lines, you’ll find that this setting helps you quickly refresh the strokes to smoothen the slightly toothing edges. Also, you can disable the auto-refresh to create a modest ink bleeding effect intentionally.

You’ll find this setting helpful when you take long notes and need them to be transformed into typed texts. By enabling AI recognition progress to run in the background, you allow BOOX to recognize your texts while you’re writing them down, so it can provide quicker transformation to the full text.

Let’s review the tips again.

💡Tip1: Upload a template in .jpg format to make it applicable for cloud syncing.

💡Tip2: Turn off “automatically sync Notes when Notepad is opened/closed” in Note Sync Settings to reduce loading and closing time of notes.

💡Tip3: Disable “showing erasing trace” in Settings to avoid sight interruption of the erasing ball.

💡Tip4: Enable “auto refresh after lifting the pen” and set the time to a minimum of 400 milliseconds in Settings to smoothen strokes quickly.

💡Tips5: Turn on “automatic AI recognition in the background” in Settings to speed up long text recognition.
